The Tuatara

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM01

The tuatara is not a lizard, but a reptile. The world`s only living dinosaur!! The Southland museum in Invercargill (bottom of the South Island) has a breeding programme. They live to be well over 100 and eat insects. This design has very subtle shading and looks stunning when finished - take care when sorting your threads!

Kit includes chart, bookmark fabric, threads and needle.

NZ Rainbow Trout

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM02

Great design to stitch for the fishing addict in your life! The colouring of each fish varies from river to river, lake to lake. The brightest colours occur at spawning time. New Zealand`s lakes and rivers are famous for their superb trout - smoked trout is delicious, if you get the chance to try it! I was lucky enough to be provided with fresh samples to get my colours just right (before they were smoked that is!)

Kit includes chart, bookmark fabric, threads and needle.

Kiwifruit

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM03

Downunder in New Zealand we call the kiwi our kiwifruit. Delicious, high in vitamin C and great for marinating the toughest meats, this bright green fruit looks great stitched as a bookmark or as a minibellpull. The pips are french knots, and subtle shading effects are achieved by simple blending of threads. For the tastiest kiwis choose NZs Zespri label

Kit contains Chart, Bookmark fabric, Threads and Needle.

Navel Orange

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM04

This orange brings back memories to me. My grandmother had the biggest navel oranges which always seemed sweetest in the middle of winter. They were always at the top of the tree, and well worth the climb to get them. I was fascinated by the baby orange grwing in the centre. This design looks striking when displayed as a mini bell pull along side the kiwi fruit.

Hectors Dolphin

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM05

This is the worldps smallest dolphin, found only in the waters around New Zealand. It is unusual with it`s rounded dorsal fin. Like many species, it is endangered, affected specially by gill net fishing. It is a protected species here, if you are lucky you may be able to swim with the dolphins and even see a whale or two off the Kaikoura coast in the South Island .

Kit includes bookmark fabric, threads and needle.

NZ Merino

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM06

In the South Island high country they say we grow the finest merino wool in the world. This design uses very soft shades, with a combination of half stitches and full cross stitches to get a feeling of distance as you look to the hills.

NZ Kiwi

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM07

New Zealand`s national bird is flightless and nocturnal. It has the largest egg in the world relative to the size of it`s body. Their name comes from the calls they make to each other in the night - keeeeeeee weeeeee!

Kit, includes chart, bookmark fabric, threads and needle.

NZ Silver Fern

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM08

I specially enjoyed working on this design, finding a way of using three colours to get a 3 dimensional fern. I`ve used 3/4 cross stitches to get a feathery look. If you can stitch a normal cross stitch, the 3/4 cross stitch is easy. Full instuctions are included with each kit. This is New Zealand`s national emblem, a tree fern which is green with a silver white underside.

Kit includes chart, bookmark fabric, threads and needle.

NZ Kowhai

The kowhai tree flowers in early spring and provides nectar for tui, also known as the parson bird. The flowers are stunning, as are those of it`s cousin the kaka beak which has scarlet flowers.

NZ Pohutukawa

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM11

This magnificent tree puts on it`s crimson display in summer time, just in time for Christmas. It is known as New Zealand`s Christmas tree. Unfortunately it is also a favourite meal of the pesky non-native possum, an import from across the Tasman. Project Crimson has been planting and protecting this mighty tree in New Zealand since the mid 1980`s. A 3D effect has been achieved by using a combination of long stitch and cross stitch.

Kit includes chart, bookmark fabric, threads and needle.

Catham Islands Forget-Me-Not

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM12

This gorgeous plant has a massive head of brilliant blue flowers in the spring and loves the damp South side of the garden (that is the North side for any of you from the Northern hemisphere). It is native to a small group of islands a few hundred km off to the Southeast of New Zealand. Moana, who designed this bookmark, her grandmother was born there - the kit comes with a true story about her parents courting.

Kit contains Chart, Bookmark fabric, Threads and Needle.

NZ First to see the light

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM13

As you probably know, here in \"Godzone\" we were the first to see the dawn of the new millennium. Officially (unless anyone else changes their dateline) the Chatham Islands are the first land to see the dawn each new day.

This bookmark was designed to celebrate the new millennium, the year 2000.

Aotearoa

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM14

This bookmark follows on from the Aotearoa New Zealand series. It symbolises the cycle of life in relation to water. The rain in the top panels, mountains in the centre and ocean at the bottom. My name, Moana, means sea or lake in Maori.

NZ Pukeko

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM15

The pukeko, or swamp hen as it is known in other parts of the world, is a bit of a rat bag in the world of birds. They can be quite vicious and have been known to attack other birds and their young. Mind your freshly planted veggie gardens if there is a family of pukeko in the neighborhood.

New Zealand

Price: NZ $16.00 Order Code: BM16

Quick to stitch, you can add wee french knots, to show where you live or places you`ve visited. The mountains are backstitched in pale blue and stand out beautifully. Aotearoa is our Maori name for New Zealand. It means "land of the long white cloud."
